Mental health can be a difficult subject but the more we talk about it, the we can normalise it, understand it and can find strategies and options for supporting people in need of help.

MDC and it's youth Focus group are excited to be able to bring Michael Hempseed to speak to our community.
Michael is a very busy, professional speaker who travels all over New Zealand running workshops on mental illness and suicide prevention. In 2016 he spoke at TEDx on the impact of failure.

Michael will cover - knowing how to help someone with mental illness or thoughts of suicide. Please note this is a 16years+ presentation.

Although mental illness and suicide are uncomfortable topics everyone needs to understand them and know how to help someone in need. This presentation will empower anyone within the community to recognize the signs of distress and to know how to support someone who may need help.

Many feel nervous about attending workshops like this, but Michael presents it in a funny, engaging and moving way that many people feel uplifted after they leave.

Joining Michael will be representatives from the DHB Public Health team. they'll share information specific to our community, and how to engage with these services.
There will be an opportunity for a Q & A session and a more informal chat over tea and biscuits at the end.

Who should attend: everyone over 16!

As this is such an important topic we'd love to see as many of our community as possible attend.
